The hippie tablecloth skirt is this close to being finished.  Which doesn’t mean it won’t still be a huge fail, but I’m trying not to focus on that at the moment.  If it is a fail, it will be because I am over forty and can’t figure out how to wear it, not because it didn’t work.  I made it work, with my superpowers.  I think its success will depend upon my dye pot, a small amount of unraveling, and maybe a trip to the thrift store.  I totally want to wear this skirt, stirring some lentils and singing Alice’s Restaurant, while some long-haired hobo I’ve never seen before plays guitar in the corner.  That’s the dream!

  3. The good thing about being over forty is, it's not over 60! I still eat lentils! Beautiful skirt. Colour?

  4. That certainly is an accomplishment! I had a crochet dress years ago that would drop gradually while I wore it. It would go from mini length to calf length! :)
By the way - I am over 60 - but it is better than the alternative :)

  6. Sounds wonderful! At 62 I'm only just learning that what others think doesn't really matter and I have to live (and that includes dress) for me. It's so liberating, I hope others learn earlier in life. (I hope my DDs read this!) x

  9. It is our family tradition to listen to Alice's Restaurant every Thanksgiving morning! Your skirt is pretty! Is it a pattern or did you design it as you went?

  10. Too funny! I'm from that era but I wasn't a hippy. I did march for a few causes but was mostly a serious student. It looks gorgeous from here. Look at it this way....if it doesn't work as a skirt it would make a great tablecloth or curtain. I love it.

  12. Just stay away from the folks on the Group W bench. I love the look of your skirt so far, hippie mama.

  14. You could always dip the skirt into the pot of lentils instead of the dye.....
Looking good as usual Kristen, love your sense of style : )
